HTC Touch HD Available Unofficially in India
By: Shayne Rana   |   Dec 19, 2008

As a heads up for HTC fans that are anxiously waiting for the HTC HD touch to arrive, there are no official dates or pricing information from the company yet. Of course the Indian gray market is a horse of different color and there’s virtually no gadget that any company can launch that the market won’t get weeks or sometimes months prior to an official launch.

While strolling around I popped into a mobile store for pricing on a few handsets and happened to notice an HTC Touch HD box. The price, which I’m sure you’re curious to know, was Rs. 40,000 flat. This could vary depending on the place it’s available at.

We don’t know when it’ll get here or how much the official MRP would be so stay tuned.

I agree with Ivan Bayross, SE Xperia is a disaster; SE must be brave enough to price anything about Rs 20-25K for the kind of phone they have offered it for the customer. It has just smaller VGA screen with QWERTY - I own HTC 9502 which is being priced at 25K has similar features. Not sure who would buy X1 for Rs40K!

What I find amazing is after Apple launched the iPhone in India with a lot of fanfare for Rs.35,000/- approx, every mobile manufacturer has launched phones starting at about Rs.28,000/- towards infinity.

What impression do they have? Have all the Indians suddenly turned multi millionaires overnight? Does no one remember the fiasco of the Apple iPhone launch when hundreds came to SEE and no one actually BOUGHT?

I often wonder what exactly I'm paying for in a mobile phone like the Xperia or the Omnia that justifies the price they are sold at.

HTC were so embarrassed of the price that they launched it unofficially?

;)

India is so stuck with S40 and S60 nokia plastic craps.. and dude its not about replacing laptop or desktop its about portability. In more simple words.. Windows mobile is like the game GTA.. lol.. you can do all in one.

Will be surprised if any fool is willing to buy such phones in gray markets for Rs 40K without support or warranty!!!!

May be they get money through Hawala channels or other terrorist friendly means.

Normal citizen with common sense will not buy this beyond Rs 25K.

Its good now we customers are having options of variety of Touch Phones, however priced at Rs. 30K, 40K etc. I doubt how well it will work in a country where PC Penetration is 23% - 25% and out of that Laptops account only for 5%. Moreover Laptops are now available in a range of 25K and above. So an entry level customer is completely aliniated and ofcourse we cannot consider these high tech Touch Phones to replace PC or Laptops. So it leavs only 2 - 5% of the segment who can afford it..I doubt if this is a great proposition..keep skimming the market..,but where do you finally stop.!!!
