Everyone's favorite search engine that replaced the term "to search the web" with "to google" has turned 8 as of 27th of September 2006. Over the past eight years, Google has managed to obtain almost 80% of the search traffic on the internet, according to independent estimates, and received upto one billion search requests every day.
To commemorate the anniversary, a special logo was displayed on the homepage. The logo is a typical Google-style variation of its logo with a birthday cake and also an "8" in place of a "g".
