Last month we reviewed the A610, one of the two new entries by Fujifilm, in the market in the A-series. Honestly, on first sight I was dreading it would be just as bad a performer as the A610. I’m happy to say it isn’t! Read more.
Design
The A800 looks just like the A610, save a few changes here and there. And what’s more, it’s just as glossy as it’s sibling. This one too, has got the steely look, and the rather uneven mix of curves and turns. Although, ergonomically the A800 is easy to use with just one hand, although this just stays true while clicking pictures. The mode dial is a little dodgy! By this I mean it’s a bit too flat and thin to be used while using the camera with one hand. You will need a little getting used.
The button placements too are just like the A610, although the little depression that you could use to lock your thumb in place has been replaced with a small dial that takes you directly to the various modes and settings the camera has to offer. This, I like!! It’s very convenient to have all these in place so that you can simply choose and click. At 97.5 x 61.9 x 31.0 mm it's not very compact, but then no battery operated cameras are slim. It's quite light though, weighing at approximately 151g.
At the back, there is the directional pad that can also be used as a one-touch access to things like delete, flash, timer and macro mode. There are the usual display/back and view buttons.
What I like about the A-series cameras, however, would be the largish screen with an effective anti-reflection coating. This helps a lot while the sun is right on top, and you are trying to work with the screen.
