Lenovo Ideapad Y650

Excellent features
Rich multimedia experience
Powerful hardware
Funky looks
The price-point could’ve been a bit more attractive

The Lenovo Y650 sports a multimedia-centric high-end feature set. Needless to say that it’s intended for people who are looking for an all-in-one portable entertainment package.

Applications
Watching movies on the crisp 16-inch display and listening to the pristine onboard sound is truly a treat. You can also directly playback using Blu-ray discs. To further enhance this experience use the HDMI port to connect the laptop to your HDTV or a larger monitor. HDMI allows connecting HD projectors while older models can be connected via the VGA port.

If watching movies doesn’t satisfy you, connect your cable TV to the built-in TV tuner. Storing HD movies requires a lot of space, but the 320 GB of storage is likely to suffice. Even transferring data will be faster with the eSATA port. Connectivity is offered via gigabit Ethernet and Wi-Fi N, which means faster connections and larger wireless coverage area.

Performance
The heady amalgamation of powerful hardware and high-end multimedia isn’t common amongst laptops. Also, the excellent overall quality of multimedia is a rarity. Considering these factors we’d say that the price tag is justified to a large extent.

The point of a laptop is its portability. Netbooks are too low powered for any practical use. Ultra-thins like the HP’s dv2 with the portability similar to netbooks but with power rivaling regular laptops are the ideal candidates for anybody, considering that tasks like gaming, movie-viewing, phot/video-editing and designing require a large screen which aren’t present even on regular laptops which compromise on portability.

this review seems like more of an ad from lenovo than an honest review.. 1 lakh for this crap?? u got to be kidding. for a gfx card that wont even handle crysis (2 year old game) :P Tech2 is really losing it. well i'm using an Asus g50vt which is way way more powerfull and cost me half the price of this lenovo junk.
Dwayne @ Jul 21, 2009
THIS is what passes for a review these days!!! Come on, it's 2 pages long, and even calling it that is stretching it.
Tushar @ Jul 21, 2009
Buddies.......its really a feature rich lappy with excellent hardware....DDR3 ram , blue ray , wi-fi 802.11 n wireless adapter etc etc. it isn't that bad. But it seems to be a bit overpriced ,but it'll com down soon the technology gets local. Ya i'll also prefer a dell xps coz u can't throw ur money for blue rays and 802.11n, u can purchase them externally also.

I DO AGREE WITH VIVEK THIS MACHINE DOES NOT HAVE ANY SPECIAL SPECS , AND AT 3.0 KG ITS USELESS, I AM USING DELL XPS NAD ITS MULTIMEDIA PERFORMANCE IS AMAZING AND AT ONLY 1.7 KG ITS SUPERB,, ONE CAN LOOK FOR THE NEW SONY Z 48 MACHINE IF THEY HAVE MORE THAN A LAKH TO SHELL OUT
DIPTIMAN @ Jul 20, 2009
Does this crap really cost more than 1lakh.. Pls confirm the price once again..!!
Except for the upgraded processor the config is similar to acer 5739g (rs..49,900)..and also acer is having far more better grafics card n than this lenovo crap..(ati 4750 in acer n nvidia g105 in lenovo)
n pls hdmi port n tv tuner isn't such a breakthrough which this mean machine is boasting off..
Nowadays evry another lappy hv this HDMI port....
{ Lappy weighing= 3kg is light weight.. hahaha..its bullshit}
Lenovo's marketing strategies aint gonna pay back unless they lower their price tag..
For multimedia experience go for dell xps instead or prefer hp dv6 1110ax(rs 47,000)....

@chipian - Chip and Tech2 share the same Network 18 labs, so you will find reviews being shared between both publications.
@Siddhant Saxena - We do not do PR plugs, paid reviews or advertorials in our reviews and features.

These lines and others prove to anyone having even a basic knowledge of reviewing or even english language that this is a PR plug!

Grow up Tech 2. i know u guys need to make bucks but dont pass them off as reviews! Make them a "Special Feature" or something!
Siddhant Saxena @ Jul 20, 2009
Why does it read like a paid review? It reeks of being a PR plug...
Siddhant Saxena @ Jul 20, 2009
