Mediocre screen quality

No DivX support
Heats up during playback

Portable DVD players are arguably a dying breed. With hard drive and flash based portable media players taking over the market, having a player that requires you to carry additional DVDs seems like an obsolete idea. But that doesn't make them a bad option for portable entertainment; far from it.

The biggest advantage you have with these players is that you can rent or buy a DVD while traveling, so you'll never run out of movie options. Add the convenience of not transferring DivX movies from your computer to the player and the portable DVD player suddenly becomes a good idea.

Mitashi has been known for releasing various consumer/home entertainment solutions like video games and DivX/DVD players at attractive prices. Let's see if their TFD-7305 portable DVD player is truly value for money or simply 'cheap'.

Build
If you didn't know better, you'd probably confuse the Mitashi TFD-7305 portable DVD player for an ultra-portable laptop in its closed state. Its design borrows the tilt-n'-swivel functionality that you see in Tablet PCs these days. And that's a good thing!

What I liked about the TFD-7305 when I first got my hands on it was that everything I needed, I got it right out of the box. It came with a stereo headset, a car charger, AC adapter/charger, composite connectivity cables for connecting the unit to a television set, a remote control and a car harness. The box it came in mentioned a retractable stand and a cassette adapter for sound output on car stereos but we didn't find this in these in the box that came for the review, but were assured that they are a part of the package sold at retail.

The 16:9 aspect ratio, 7 inch (diagonal) screen of the Mitashi TFD-7305 can swivel back 180 degrees and lock on to the base player, making it pretty flexible in its usage. As mentioned above, the player comes with a harness that lets you attach it to the back of the driver seat, so you can enjoy the movie while traveling in the back seat of your car. Of course in other cases it would be a better option to simply place the player on your desktop and use it as you would a laptop.

It would be great if you could review tvs also. You would be reaching out to a segment of consumers that are not so tech savvy but would like a review of a simple consumer item like a tv that they decide to purchase.
