With the SatGuide Mio Moov 300 fitted in your car you won’t get lost anywhere in India. The device comes preloaded with a map database of over 400 cities in the country on its onboard storage of 1 GB. It’s equipped with a 4.3-inch touchscreen and a speaker at the rear for voice direction. The home screen has large icons for its features and the UI is very user friendly and feels like you’re using a portable media player. With native support for playing MP3 files and DivX videos, the Moov 300 doubles as an in-car entertainment device. An SD/MMC card slot expands the onboard memory for carrying media files.
You can access the free map browsing mode from the main menu, which shows you where you are on the map and also allows you to browse the map. Exploring the map is as simple as dragging the map on the screen. The zoom buttons on the top corners of the screen let you zoom in and out. The most powerful tools are Point of Interest (POI) and Street. The map database has over 16 lakh points of interest in over 400 cities categorized into various categories—airport, ATM, banks, bar and pubs, bus stops, cinema, colleges, embassies, hotel, hospitals and nursing homes, tourist spots, railway stations, etc. On selecting a destination the device quickly plans the best route.
If you have absolutely no idea of getting to a place you can activate the driving directions option that displays a complete turn-by-turn list of directions from your location to the destination. You can even create detours if you’re aware of busy streets and heavy traffic en route. SatGuide has also included a tool called Multistop Planner for traveling to multiple destinations (up to 12) in a single trip.
It takes around a minute for the device to find the available GPS satellites and fix on them after which it’s ready. Traveling to unknown destinations is quite easy with the Mio Moov 300, but it lacks information on one-way roads and no entries. So you run the risk of getting fined if you miss sign boards. Also the map needs a big update as it misses out on new roads and points of interest that have recently come up. SatNav offers a free map update on the purchase of this device after which you have to subscribe for updates—a package of four updates in a year costs Rs 1,999.
At Rs 16,990, the SatGuide Mio Moov 300 good for adventurous people but the map needs a big update.
