Creative Aurvana DJ Headphones
By: Siddharth Bhatia   |   Jan 21, 2008
Tight low-end sound
Decent bass
Expensive
Bright sound

DJs are like shamans to a hungry tribe of young partygoers; the latter wants only one thing: killer music, thumping beats, articulate breaks, and other adrenalin-spewing forms of energy. It's understood that the job of a DJ is as difficult as anything else, and that the gear they need is of utmost importance.

Creative came out with these DJ headphones in the middle of last year, and they're called Creative Aurvana DJ. Aurvana is their latest line of headphones; their in-ear headphones were reviewed last week in the earphone shoot out. I saw a buddy using the Aurvana DJ for a performance, so I thought: why not check it out?

Design and Features
These closed-back circumaural cans are nice and heavy; with quite a sturdy build. This is not usually the case with Creative products, so I was impressed. The aesthetics include a dual tone: the earpads and headband are black, while joints and driver enclosures have a brushed metal finish. The latter is more like gunmetal than your regular aluminum, and imparts a slight coppery tint. The material used isn’t metal though; it’s hard plastic.

The earcups are angled in towards the ears when viewed from front, and are rotatable 180 degrees vertically, so they can be inverted outward for one-ear use. This is a must for DJ headphones. The drivers are 40 mm with neodymium magnets, while the specs state copper-clad aluminum wire voice coils, oxygen-free cables, and gold-plated connector plugs. Speaking of plugs, a 3.5 mm EP-¼ inch TRS (small to big) converter is included for use with pro audio equipment.

The driver cases and adjustable headbands are padded well, with the regular leathery finish for the pads. The frequency response is 20Hz~20 kHz, sensitivity is 105 dB/mW (at 1Khz), and the impedance is 32 ohms.

I wouldn't want one for even $79. I have a Sony MDR series that I bought in USA for $30. I have compared this against many and it kicks the butt out of most headphones available in indian market upto INR 3500.

I agree, way to expensive. Would not want to drop 8k for them especially when one can get Sony MDRv 7000 or the like for around the same amount or actually less if you hunt around and they are vastly superior cans.

If one is looking for a pair of good cans for less i would recommend the Technics RP-DJ1200 which can be had for a lot less. Some of their home cans are also pretty good
