It's August, the precursor month to Indian festivities, the  time when all electronics manufacturers start sending out new ‘maal’, and stores start stocking up. That’s when we come in early itself, to review the promising looking stuff so you can buy the best this festive season. What we have today is a new Home Theater model by the highly reputed Audio video brand Onkyo. It’s called the HT-S3200.

Design and features
This 5.1 speaker model comes with an AV receiver which is called the HT-R370, and a set of subwoofer and satellite speaker package called the HTP-370. Since this is not the HTIB (home theater in a box) category, there is no disc player. We received a light metallic grey model, which is the color scheme throughout, from the façade of the receiver to the chassis of the sub. There is a black model available too. Covered by an irremovable silver cloth grille, the speakers have a futuristic look; along with the rectangular sub, which is quite surprisingly light in weight. The center and front 2 speakers are longer, while the surrounds are a bit shorter. The package comes with all the necessary wires, and a nice typical Onkyo looking remote, with 3 different colors for buttons.

Moving onto the receiver, the front has the large volume knob on the right of the front panel, with a black push button as the power on switch on the opposite end. In between these two we have numerous buttons, all arranged in 2 neat rows, one slim black array, and below that small round ones for input selection.

You can connect everything you have, from TV audio out, to PS3, DVD player etc., all simultaneously, as all the connections are available in plenty. There are 3 HDMI ins and one HDMI out (for passthrough), along with 2 optical audio ins and one Coaxial audio in. There is an RI port for external iPod dock, sold separately in this model.

Feature wise Onkyo has quite a few proprietary stuff going on, which is generally there in all their models, like CinemaFilter, that processes the tonal balance of movie soundtracks, and Audyssey’s full suite: Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume. Here there is no mic included for auto setup in the Audyssey, it’s just preset EQ and Volume Compression modes. Please see pic for complete list of specs like power rating etc.

Does it come with a USB port for connecting flash drives? That would have enhanced the usability tremendously.

@ Dwayne
Thanks for the input, we will always work on our reader's feedback.

@ Chits
Exactly what Dwayne said....We need the audio to be processed by the reciever, thus there is a specific need to carry audio through separate cable, and let the video just go straight to the TV, unless off course the Reciver model has video processing like upscaling etc. but still audio is best transferred via an optical cable from the source player to the receiver.

@SId, dont take this the wrong way. but Tech2 needs to pull up their socks with some of their reviews/preveiws. SOme of them feel like they have been ripped of ENgadget, or from some other place. and it seems that they have been simply copy pasted and it looks like testers notes rather than a complete review.

I feel that this is one of the better reviews i'v seen in some time, although i would have wished for a little more detail about watching a blu ray and playing PS3.
Dwayne @ Aug 06, 2009
@ Sid, Nice one, and thanks for the clarification. i may just go and get one. But id like to see a simlar prices Yamaha and this in a head to head review.
@ chits, if you need to pass the sound and video through the HDMI i dont see the point of a reciever. may as well connect it direclty. since you would want to get the sound out of the speakers and the video from the tv. As long as the reciever is getting the sound into it by HDMI it doesnt need to pass it to the TV.
Dwayne @ Aug 06, 2009
Why HDMI passthrough..as you guys aware for passthrough we need to run separate audio cable ....

when will Onkyo release a model which has audio processing through HDMI..
HT-S6100 is the right choice i am waiting for it..
chits @ Aug 05, 2009
@ dwayne
Hi we did an HDMI passthrough alright, and it worked perfectly fine. The problem you say might have been with that specific piece?

@ Shibu.
Think of it as the lowest price you can get, besides grey dealers

And @ Exotiq and Dinesh
We love you , you little pathetic troll, we really love you , please click more on all our reviews and give us more hits, get all your friends and family also to click and read our reviews.
siddharth bhatia @ Aug 05, 2009
WHATS a MOP price ?
shibu @ Aug 05, 2009
"get a sound"..........? How can you get " a sound' ? please let us know the secret how tech2.com manages to get 'a sound'.
dinesh @ Aug 04, 2009
" The overall sound was very loud, from such small speakers to get a sound that can fill a 400 square meter room is commendable.."..????
Then i suppose we shud install these in movie Theatres rather than homes...!!!
xotiq @ Aug 04, 2009
I have had an Onkyo for the past 4 years and it work beautifully. Its a full bang for your bucks. I am not surprised that the new model is good too.
Vivek @ Aug 04, 2009
Just the review i was waiting for. I had one question though. DId u guys do an HDMI pass through with the PS3? and was there any issues. I heard that one specific model ONKYO 806 or something has a problem of blue speckling in the blacks while passing video through the reciever with the ps3.
Dwayne @ Aug 04, 2009
The best HT in market with Great Audio Quality.. 24k is not bad !!!
