Onkyo is a commonly-heard name when the discussion turns to home theater systems in India, for the company has been here for a while now. Of course there are higher-end brands and plenty of options to choose from, but this brand with its heavy advertising has managed to capture a chunk. Today we shall review one of Onkyo's most popular mid-segment offerings – the TX SR575 7.1 channel AV receiver.
Design and Features
The façade has a typical array of buttons of all shapes and sizes. We might as well begin our journey at the square power button on the left, and move along to the huge volume knob on the right. The bottom left corner has a phono (¼-inch) output for headphones, while the opposite ends have a composite video input as one of the auxiliary-ins.
There are two horizontal lines of functional buttons, one slim and flat, the other small and round. The colors available are black and silver, and it looks neat. This actually looks like a typical AV receiver, with a grilled chassis and a rear panel consisting of the numerous I/O stuff. A rectangular LED screen displays info in a clear, readable font and this is important as the unit has no OSD.
Designed to act as the hub of your HT, feature-wise this piece represents a new batch of AV receivers that are changing the rules of the game. Earlier, hardcore specs and options were reserved for the high-end models, but now most of the good stuff is trickling down.
Having said that, this model too is not entry-level; it comes with a boatload to satisfy even the most avid AV enthusiasts. Okay, maybe not the most avid, but still...
