Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28
By: Nikhil Singh   |   Aug 13, 2009
  • 4.5
Great ISO performance
Vivid color reproduction
Easy to use shortcut buttons
Great Image Stabilization
720p video recording
RAW support
Auto-white balance messes up (rarely though)
Night mode is unimpressive

The last Panasonic camera we had our hands on - the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS42 - left us thoroughly impressed by its image quality and reasonable price. Their new superzoom offering - the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 does the same, here's why...

118 x 75 x 89mm in dimensions and with a weight of 417-grams, the FZ28 is amongst the smaller superzooms. Its body's made of powder and smooth finish tough black plastic, that feels good to the touch.

Its textured rubber handgrip is well contoured with an indented groove for your middle finger, that lets your hand rest perfectly while your index finger's independent to hover around the shutter release and zoom toggle. The top of the camera contains the Shutter release, zoom toggle, auto focus toggle and macro mode buttons, placed along side a mode dial.

The back of the camera has the flash button on the extreme left, and the EVF toggle, AF lock, Q. Menu, display, delete buttons, alongside a navigation D-pad and a standard 2.7-inch screen that features 230,000 pixels. While the FZ28 might seem cluttered up with buttons, once you use it you realize how easy it is to access most of the camera's functions through the shortcut buttons rather than navigating through the menu. The camera's designed for those who want control at their fingertips, and that's evident in its build.

canon sx10is is the best superzoom,4.5 rating is a bit high for panasonic.cannot compete with quality of canon or nikon.

Sreenivas @ Aug 14, 2009

jacko @ Aug 13, 2009
adisal... where did u buy this... i am looking for something similar or this...
Sandeep @ Aug 13, 2009
i have the fz-18,quite similar to this.
absolutely love it. Night shots are bad in any camera.
use tripods for best results. adisal is right, panasonic is about to phase this out...
iamafreak @ Aug 13, 2009
Now the review when this product being phased out soon in sept and newer improved FZ38/35 lauching soon. But better late than never, good that tech2 considered panasonic as serious contender. In india people underestimate panasonics after all biggies like sony, canon, nikon etc. I own this camera since 3 months back, and very much satisfied. I disagree with u thoguh on night performance. Pana Fz28 supports shutter speeds of almost 1 sec to 1min. I find it more than enough. You want more exporsure then no other way than more shutter speed. Its 'Starry sky' mode is just fantastic. I bought this camera from grey market at arnd 18k + 1k for 8GB SDHC card.
