The last couple of years has seen 22-inch monitors go mainstream, and there's been a large number of releases in this segment. In such a crowded market, it has become increasingly difficult for companies to be able to offer features that make their products stand out. Keeping this in mind, Samsung recently launched its Syncmaster T220 model, which promises some impressive specifications and very stylish looks. Without further ado, let’s check it out...
Design and Features
The T220 at first glance looks simply astonishing. Having gotten used to seeing staid panels with none too imaginative finishes, the T220 came as a breath of fresh air. For starters, unlike the regular black matte finish most monitors come with, the T220 has Samsung’s patented “Touch of Color” bezel with a smooth glossy finish, along with a thick plastic coating similar to their 6 Series high-end LCD TVs.
The frame itself sports a beautiful framed-plastic coating which is accentuated by soft-edge corners and a transparent red strip at the bottom of the screen. The overall look of the monitor makes it more at home in one of the avant-garde apartments and modern outhouses that have become popular with the wealthy and powerful today.
The base of the T220 has been designed to match the overall look of the bezel, and has the same high-gloss finish. However, it fails in some other areas. For instance, while the monitor can be tilted by approximately 30-35 degrees, it allows no height adjustment. The base cannot be rotated or swiveled either. Considering that even the most inexpensive 17-inch LCD panels offer these features now, its absence in such a premium product is inexcusable.
The OSD controls include a touch-panel power button and standard menu buttons that are present to the right of the monitor. Connectivity-wise the T220 is a bit of a disappointment. It offers only the standard D-sub and DVI connectors, and little else.
