iPod Classic 160GB
By: Laiq Qureshi   |   Feb 29, 2008
  • 4.5

If you thought all we've been doing lately is sit around, think again. After a lot of effort we managed to get our greedy paws on the monstous iPod Classic 160GB, which launched just a few months ago. Who said persistence doesn't pay? (For those who came in late, the Classic is merely a fancy name given to the sixth generation of what is commonly known as the 'video iPod'.)

Unlike any of its earlier attempts at making the perfect video player, Apple has finally given the world a power-packed, neatly revamped iPod. The Classic has inherited many of its predecessor’s traits, but there are new features too.

Design and Features
The 160GB Classic is the fattest member of the iPod family, with dimensions of 4.1 x 2.4 x 0.53 inches. The 80GB is obviously slimmer, and weighs a bit less, but then the 160GB is for power users. If you're one, nothing but nothing is going to stop you from buying this.

The shell of the player has been 'aluminized', making it sturdier. Apart from this and the size, the player looks like the previous generation of iPods. If there’s a change then it would be the look and feel of the interface. After the iPhone, it was only a matter of time before Apple infused a toned-down version into its other products.

A cool split-screen effect lines up menus on the left and images for selection on the right. Coverflow has been included, but it feels different without a touchscreen interface. That said, it still does what it’s meant to do – get you started with album artwork. Navigation is taken care by the click wheel. If you want to know how to add album artwork, please check out my feature on soft fixes for iPods.

You guys may feel like that,Even I was also thinking in that way ...but,when My friend bought iPod classic 80GIG for 11.4K from ebay with international warrenty I was a bit amused with the priced and the sound differs a lot from conventional SE or Nokia phones.Guys ,truly speaking iPod ROCKS IT ROCKS A LOT U DONT KNOW GUYS..IT IS A WAY BEYOND ANY MP3 GADGET..U CANT GET SUCH SOUND IN NSERIES AND ALSO IN ANY SE PHONES ABOVE 15K...The only limitation for iPOD is that ear phones doesnt have a noise cancellation feature as SE earphones have(They can be plugged fully in to ears, cancelling the sounds from surroundings) ..

ipods audio is average, they say and the bundled earphones is also average. unless u have exceptional ears, a good phone is more than enough. but don`t go for crappy phones, go 4 the good ones out there. i`m lucky to hear from creative ep-630, bose in-ear and sennheiser(around 25000). they all sounded the same though sennheiser feels a bit good. but thats not worth the money u pay for. i think creative one doing the job well. unless u feel like the the sound is crappy don`t buy any fancy items. hear it before u buy. same applied pmp`s, monitors- see it before u buy. price/performance is the key. u need to benefit for the money u pay. experiance says it all

Completey agree with Nabeel.. I mean why so hue & cry about ipod.. I had an ipod video 80GB a year ago and there was nothing much you could do except listening to few songs... You cant utilize the whole 80GB even if you listen to music for a week or so.. The quality is good no doubt but nowadays cellphones do have quality which can give ipod a run for its money... Getting an ipod and paying ridiculously large money for it is definitly not a good idea...Though it serves as a good external drive...

may be you feel it that way, listening music on an ipod is a completely different experience, you don't mind carrying three gadgets (phone, camera and ipod) if you are a perfectionist, the pics from a digicam are way ahead in quality when compared to a phone, so it is not a stupid idea to have three gadgets instead of a single one which is like a "jack of all and master of none".

I still dont understand why people are hyped about I pods?! My questions are why do people like to carry a lot of devices around when all could come under one the best example being mobile phones.. Not the ordinary ones the ones from Nokia etc... They provide ample performance and they are sufficient for a lot of stuff.. U can take pics with a high mega pixel camera or take videos or listen to music attend calls manage contacts get connected to internet and still a lot more that a conventional i pod cannot do... So i dont see the idea of getting an i pod over a phone that has ten folds of functionality than a multimedia player... As for storage dude its a fact we dont listen to all the music thats released or sung in the same month or week we get bored and eventually delete the old songs once we are bored .... So if one is really dying for storage he can get a phone that has hot swaps with storage cards as much as he likes... My point is getting an i pod is a stupid idea....

I have d 5th gen video pod....d 30gb one...which feels really tiny if seen against d 120 monster(in terms of mem power) . I was thinkin of upgradin 2 d 160 very soon but den it doesn't have AV out (which i use widely)...big time sad thing...somethin dat i really didnt like in ma ipod was d NO MANUAL GRAPHIC EQUALIZER. I love my pod cos its been a rock steady electronic gadget i'v had till now n still goin strong...though at times carryin it in d bone crushin crowd of Mumbai locals is a hassle...d bigger size jus adds 2 it now...d 160 really appeals 2 ma heart but falls back drastically in practicality.
It has as many things 2 hate 4 as many 2 love 4...its how much u can compromise over all d things dat r missin
