Intel Core i7-975 Extreme Edition

The fastest desktop processor in the world!
None

The Core i7-975 Extreme is Intel’s new speed demon that has set a new benchmark in the desktop computing space. Clocked at 3.33 GHz, this CPU is a notch higher than the former most powerful model, the Core i7-965, thanks to a bumped up multiplier (from x24 to x25). Intel has also applied a few minor tweaks which include improved thermals and better memory overclocking.

We installed the CPU on the Intel DX58SO along with 4 GB DDR3-1066 RAM and threw a couple of rigorous tests at it. It encoded a one minute MPEG video to x.264 format in 13 seconds which is just 3 seconds faster than the Core i7-965. To give you an idea about its immense processing power — it’s twice as fast as the Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400!

Extremely demanding applications such as 3D modeling, imaging, page layout, and video editing will make best use of this processor’s immense potential—ideal for heavy-duty workstations. But it hardly impacts gaming performance. Go in for this CPU at Rs. 59,940 if you’re ready to spend another Rs 25,000 for a decent X58 motherboard and 6 GB DDR3 RAM.

Package type: LGA 1366; Speed: 3.33 GHz; Cores: 4; Fab process: 45 nm; L3 cache: 8 MB.

It is too much expensive, heard about intel core i9 a 32nm processor. The world of computing is evolving so fast. I think I would stick with intel core i7 920. Thats for me.

You could have given more info Anand. This wasn't enough for a Tech enthusiast like me.

Most of the stuff that I see on this site seems to be a rip-off sites like Lifehacker/Gizmodo/Engadget/Toms Hardware/other comp related forums...

very few genuinely unique topics and inputs...

SAD!

What a idiotic review Anand. Which of this information I would no have got at the Intel web site. I hate to say it but it looks a paid advertisement. What value did you add in this article.

Core i7-975 Extreme is not exactly NEW... Core i5 series is new.. This one was released almost 3 months back...

And you people teamed it up with crappy hardware (Intel DX58SO with 4GB DDR3-1066 RAM) thats sad choice....

And what are u comparing this with... a Q8400??? its a pathetic excuse for a quad core.. you could have atleast compared it with Q6600 or Q9550 or even QX9650...
Rahul Doiphode @ Sep 10, 2009
Are you retarded to say that this CPU does NOT have any downsides ? Price and the supported hardware components seem quite limited. Geez !
Chetan Thaker @ Sep 10, 2009
It create new revolution in market
Parvinder singh chauhan @ Sep 10, 2009
why does it not make any difference in games?
did you guys compared benchmark results? which processors were used. also its gameing performance is equal to which dual core or quad core processor?
Vaibhav @ Sep 10, 2009
Intel may not sell much of these but they r showing their power in the processor market.
James @ Sep 10, 2009
Whats the use of such performance considering the price?? When will Intel make sense??
Dilmeet @ Sep 10, 2009
the downside could have been trhe price..but considering the performance...its pretty good..
