Trine

I’m not too big on Arcade or Indie games as seen by the lack of such games reviewed by me. However, in recent times I’m trying to mend my ways giving this genre a shot. Last week I was lucky enough to stumble upon one such game called Trine made by the same people behind the Shadowground series and I’ve been hooked onto it ever since (they should call it Crack instead of Trine).
Trine is a 2D action/RPG/Platformer that puts you in the boots of three distinct characters as they attempt to find out how a treasure called the Trine has bound them together. You have the agile thief, the I’m-not-too-good-at-fighting-but-I’ll-zap-your-ass-with-my-spells wizard and the knight that doesn’t back down from a fight.
As expected all three classes have their unique play styles so the thief being the agile one is a good choice for platforming and ranged attacks since she wields a bow and an arrow. The Wizard who by the way is the weakest of the lot can literally create objects like crates from thin air and lift similar objects using his telekinetic spells. And finally you have the Knight who’s a pure brawler at heart making him the ideal choice during close quarter combat.
Switching between each character is as simple as pressing a button (quite literally) and how you use their abilities is entirely up to you. What I really like about this game is the way its balanced platforming, exploration and combat allows you to use each of the three characters along the way; in fact sticking to one character throughout the game is not an option.
