Sony Vaio Z48GD

Excellent display
Awesome performance and battery life
Light weight
SSD
Runs cool and quiet
No Blu-Ray drive or eSATA port

The Sony Z48 GD is a cut above all laptops in most aspects, be it the feature set, style, portability, performance, you name it. Some of the hardware used here has never been seen in any other laptop until now. This laptop primarily targets elite power users with its businesslike looks. Apart from style and power, it scores heavily because of its weight - something that’s crucial as far as ultraportables are concerned. Since it weighs merely 1.39 kg, you won’t even feel it in your bag when you travel. Frequent flyers will rejoice, because this laptop provides the comfort of a standard 13-inch laptop, but weighs only as much as a netbook.

Another striking point of this laptop is its entertainment capabilities. Although the onboard Intel 4500 MHD graphics suffice for mainstream applications, the discrete GeForce 9300 M GS GPU adds significant value and more GPU power. The latter can be activated on-the-fly by simply switching from the Stamina mode to the Speed mode with the physical switch on the unit.

The Z48 GD is a cut above. Some of the hardware used here has never been seen in any other laptop until now.
While most games are playable at a full 1600 x 900 resolution with medium settings, watching movies is a completely enthralling experience. While watching full-HD video clips, the audiovisual experience was not only stutter-free, but jaw-dropping. This is all due to the good built-in speakers, the crisp 13.1-inch LED backlit display and its native resolution of 1600 x 900—it’s sheer eye candy! Further, there’s an HDMI port for connecting the laptop to an HDTV. You’ll enjoy watching movies on the laptop but you can also power a larger screen if the need arises.

This switch allows you to turn off the discrete graphics processor to save battery life.

The combination of an Intel Core 2 Duo P9700 processor (which features a hefty 6 MB L2 cache), 6 GB of DDR3 RAM and a 256 GB solid state drive (SSD) spells sheer performance. The Z48 even trounces the MacBook Pro when it comes to performance.

Not sure how tech2 reviews but. All that processing power and ram, is mostly put to use while gaming. Web browsing and most office applicaions would run on a net book, SO i dont see the point of so much processing power and ram on a notebook with a nvidia 9300.. And then i dont see the point or praising such a waste of money to the skies. I think Tech2 is being bought over by the manufacturers they review for,

Went to Sony Dealer in Ravipuram, Cochin. The laptop model i enquired was not there. They said they will get it for me and will give me a call after the item reached in their stock. I have given phone number to them, and i got their phone number too. For the past 3 months i have called them more 15 times. Still no respose from them. And they didnt call even once.

Sony=> Worst Service, No Value for money, Performance only if we use in standard accessories/conditions.Which too costly....
e.g. to get a satisfactory perfomance we should use BigTV or Tatasky..
In case of Samsung, even if we input local cable it will give satisfactory perfomance...

Still surprise why people wasting money on Sony BRAND.

LOL You guys advertise the HP Probook 4510s and review a Sony.
Also when you review the Probook, dont forget to mention how difficult it is to replace the Memory and HDD.
The Worst LAPTOP Design from HP.

I bougtht one of the first SZ series VAIO . I had a few minor problems and the serivce was the worst I have ever experienced. I had to take my laptop to a service center in the outskirts of Bangalore and wait for two hours. This is no way to treat a high end customer. On the other side, my wife's Dell laptop (purchased in the US) needed repair and Dell (Wipro) came immediately to our office and repaired it. I needed a Windows reinstall CD for a new hard drive, and Dell int he US sent it via UPS to our US office. I need a reinstall CD for my VAIO, and after four months, I'm still getting the run around from Sony. I guess it's not too difficult to see why Sony, as a oompany, are having so many probelms and losing market share. Would I every buy a VAIO, no..i'm going for a Mac next!

Seems good but i somehow hate the trackpad of sony vaio laptops. It feels crappy. Sony should improve trackpads in atleast high end models.
