Games of July 2009
By: Avinash Bali   |   Jul 01, 2009

July is a relatively mellow month for gamers which is good in a way since you can now save up for the more intense months to come. There are a few interesting games heading our way this month, two of which are PC ports of excellent games so lets take a look at what July has in store for us:

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood (Xbox 360 PS3 PC)

A prequel serving as a sequel, Call of Juarez: BiB will shed some light on Reverend Ray’s violent past as he along with his brother Thomas McCall rebels against the US government and hunts down the legendary gold of Juarez while killing half the population of Texas and Mexico.

Punisher: No Mercy (PSN)

When I heard of a new Punisher game I was elated. Then I heard it was a PlayStation Network exclusive not being developed by Volition so I was a tad bummed out. But today I actually checked out a few gameplay videos of this Unreal 3 powered first person shooter that’s looking insanely violent and gratifying so I’m kinda happy again.

Street Fighter IV (PC)

We’ve already reviewed the console version of Capcom’s  excellent fighter so head over to our Review for more. If you’re like really lazy, here’s a quote from the review:
To sum up, Street Fighter IV is undoubtedly at the zenith of the franchise where depth and balance is concerned. There's a really deep combat system in place for those who wish to immerse themselves in multiplayer bouts, but the lasting appeal is limited when it comes to new players since it can get repetitive if you don't enjoy the intricacies of two player versus games. If you do however, there's no better game than Street Fighter IV.

Bionic Commando (PC)

The world didn’t like this game but I loved it. People hated the swinging mechanic but once again I loved it. Now I could go on and on about how I’m radically different from the world or you could just head over to my Review to see me proclaim my love for the game. Once again, if you’re the lazy variety, here’s a quick quote:
So do I recommend Bionic Commando? Hell to the mother loving yeah. Bionic Commando is a game that challenges you, but never frustrates you. The game achieves a perfect balance between platforming and combat so you never get really bored of either of them. Even though the game’s pretty linear, you do have a few options up your arsenal so you could say the game even warrants multiple playthroughs. The swinging mechanic will take some time getting used to but stick with it and you’ll love it the way I do.

I own an Xbox 360.My console is modified and i get to play the pirated games on oit..i had my xbox for the 4 montsh now..am quite satisfied with it till date..i had spent around 2k on games and i have most of the good games that were released on xbox 360.The decision u have to make depends on how much you are willing to spend on buying games after you have got the console..btw am going for the PS 3 next month..so try doing what am doing now..go for x360 first..then top it with the PS 3 ..:P

@Puneet Bali
if you own a hdtv i believe you should go for ps3. you will definitely be much more impressed by first party titles and also great for movies. also if you are in gaming for quiet a while and have played first 2 god of wars, there is no way you dont want to play third.

Hey Puneet. I see the problem. I own a PS3 but I'm not a fan boy so here's my take on the situation. See, although games on both platforms look (graphics wise) except maybe insane bar raisers such as killzone2 or MGS4, i expect ps3 games to only get bigger and better with time. If you've checked the e3 line up you'll see what i mean..(Gran turismo, God of war3 etc). This is cos the game developers are yet to truly tap the potential of the PS3. And it's not that i'm against the 360 but i have been keeping track of a few 360 games and like you said almost all get ported over eventually and most aren't getting real high scores. So ya, Long run= ps3.(the KZ2 bundle is just 25k but worth SOOO much more)
Ragav @ Jul 01, 2009
hey puneet.. i see your problem dude. I own only a PS3, it's pretty kick ass butt let's look at it in an unbiased way. Right now games coming out on both consoles look quite similar (graphics wise) except awesome bar raisers such as KZ2 and MGS4. So instead o looking at just the games in the market at the moment, think about the to be released titles such as god of war3!! (If you've seen any of the game videos you'll know how spectacular the game is).. Plus i personally feel the PS3 has a much longer lifespan as game developers are yet to fully tap the PS3's potential. I'd say go for a PS3, it's gr8 for the long run and also I have been keeping tabs on 360 games and like you said, they're all usually multi plats so whats the point and not many seem to fare well. Just my opinion, no offence
Ragav @ Jul 01, 2009
true... itching for november to get here!!! ASSASSIN'S CREED 2!!!!! and modern warfare to(o)
Ragav @ Jul 01, 2009
you should get the 360 cus pirated games are freely available on the net. you can download games off the net and save thousands of dollars.
Pranit @ Jul 01, 2009
Hey thanks y'all.. I really appreciate it.. Actually my problem is tht I DONT like online gaming so much. I have always wanted to own an Xbox.. never even considered PS3 as an option. But now when i am actually considering buying a console I came across so many PS3 exclusives which have got gr8 reviews like Killzone2, Infamous etc.. on the other hand the important XBox exclusives are either playable on computer or they r gonna go multi platform.. if i buy a PS3 i will be missing just Halo and Gears(which is also going multi platform) for the time being.. I had first planned on buying the XBox 360 first and then when Sony cuts PS3 prices ill even go for it.. SO is such a move recommended? And i am really not bothered about the game prices.. thr aint a huge difference..
Puneet Bali @ Jul 01, 2009
also puneet, i am on twitter my id is KreativeGeek, check my gaming posts for further clarity, there was also a article from a website which compared after sales service of sony and microsoft in India for consoles, check it on my blog gamingbox DOT wordpress DOT com
Bhautik Joshi @ Jul 01, 2009
Hi Puneet, I own a Xbox 360 and i was interested to buy a PS3, in fact i was tempted to buy it with GTA 4 combo offered last year, but the problem with Sony's PS3 is that it is more of a entertainment device than a gaming machine, Xbox 360 on the other had has far more number of user's compared to PS3, still PS2 rules the roost in India in terms of console ownership, you also need to consider console game expense post you buy the console, second hand game market for Xbox 360 is much wider than PS3, this is based on my exp on game hunting 4 second sale i have done at shops and on the web, if u req more clarification, let me knw i will be glad to help
Bhautik Joshi @ Jul 01, 2009
Hey Puneet,

Sorry for the late reply but it’s like this. Buying a console depends on what you basically want from that console. If you’re a big movie buff and plan on watching tons of Blu-Rays, the PS3 is the ideal choice. If you just plan on using your console to game I would suggest the Xbox 360 since Xbox Live is far superior to PSN and for some reason developers still haven’t managed to make good PS3 ports (not talking about 1st party games here). As far as price is concerned, I don’t see any price cuts happening as of now but if I do hear something I’ll put it up on the site ASAP.

Aayush @ Jul 01, 2009
Hey Avinash!!!!! help me BRO.. i am really confused between Xbox360 and PS3.. and i realized that you are the best person to ask.. Usually the games tht release on XBox are available on PC as well.. So buying a PS3 makes more sense.. Still need your view.. And are there any expected Price Cuts around aug-oct? i have a really long term perspective for things.. so i can wait..
