Color Handsets Under Rs 3000
By: Shayne Rana   |   Aug 19, 2008

Samsung C170 – Rs 2200
The C170 is an extremely slim sleek handset with a depth of just 8.9mm. It has a 1.52 inch CSTN display with a 128 x128 pixel resolution and 65K colors. Aside from being a stylish entry-level handset, it offers some decent functions like GPRS (Class 10) and supports polyphonic ringtones. (Remember how popular those used to be at one time?)

Some other features Samsung has incorporated into the C170 include an integrated FM radio and a couple of games. This handset also has an organizer, calendar, currency converter, and a to-do list. The C170 has a built-in speaker for handsfree use and a voice recorder as well. The internal memory is just about 600KB.

Motorola W215 – Rs 2450
Motorola’s W215 is one of the more feature-rich handsets in this price bracket. It has a 640 x 480 VGA camera and video. The screen resolution is the similar to the others in this section – 65k colors CSTN with a 128 x 128 pixel resolution.

The W210 comes with 1MB of internal memory. It may not be as sleek as the Samsung C170, but it does look attractive. The handset has an integrated FM radio, some games, and a built-in handsfree feature. Like the others it comes with basic features such as a calculator and an organizer. There's also a stopwatch feature.

Consumers today are spoilt for choice, what with mobile companies trying desperately to outdo each other. In our particular category (color display handsets under Rs 3000), the choice is quite vast, so I’ve picked those that I find ideal. If you happen to be familiar with other handsets in this segment, please leave a comment. Don’t forget to mention the model number and an approximate price if you know it. Just remember – they MUST be priced lower than Rs 3000!

I think the Moto 215 is Very good with the features

But the AEM's [normally called as China Phones] are also of Rs.3000/- and come with 2MP camera Touchscreen of 2.2" and wap support+ 1GB Expandable memory + 64Mb Intenal Memory.

The biggest disadvantage of these unbranded mobiles is that they don't come with any warranty and There is no official Outlet of the company.
So you have to buy the mobile from gray market only.

Nokia 2600 classic costs Rs.3000, which is better then all mobiles listed above.

Moto Yuva W230 Tattoo Edition -- Rs.2550
2 GB Sandisk Card = Rs.400

Total = 2950

I just bought this phone and it is the best phone out there for under Rs.3000 And it looks awsome -- my friends had a hard time believing it was a sub 3000 phone -- and the build quality is excellent too-- Shayne dude must do more research before publishing his articles....

BTW LG KP110 sucks big time -- it looks like a cheap chinese phone
John @ Aug 20, 2008
there are seagem phones as well which are not bad
sachin @ Aug 19, 2008
Another handset is LG KP110. It has FM radio, media player , Micro SD card slot and at Rs 2700/- , it comes bundled with 1GB card too! I do not how long this SD Card offer will last. In My Mobile magazine, a good rating was given for this phone. I do not have personal experience with this phone. Probably others can give their personal experience here.

What about the new Motorola Motoyuva? I think it is good...its got a memory card slot too! its a surprise that the author has not found the phone to be an 'ideal' one!
