| Lately many manufacturers seem to be hopping onto platforms based on keywords that are descriptive, but misleading. Few such terms are 360, Live!, Mini! So when I found a press release in my inbox today announcing yet another 'Mini' product i was not surprised. The culprit this time is Maxtor Corporation which has begun shipping what it calls the “Maxtor OneTouch III Mini Edition”. In other words its an external drive, which comes fully equipped with all the usual bells and whistles such as password protection and one touch backup using EMC's Retrospect software for straightforward backup. Its other features include data encryption, data synchronization and system rollback to restore applications and operating system. The new drive comes in two different capacities, 60 GB ($199) and 100 GB ($299). |
