Intel Announces Dual-Core Atom

IDF is currently underway and Intel's rolling out its plans. Though a lot of the announcements don’t normally hold any surprises, this announcement did surprise me. Intel has announced that its newly introduced Atom platform will now also have a dual-core variant available. This new CPU will be called the Atom 330 and will be based on a refreshed D945GCLF2 board and will feature a 1 MB L2 cache (512k per processor). It will also continue to be on the same platform as the N270 and have a 533 MHz bus with a clock-speed of 1.6 GHz. The new CPU will also support hyper threading. This part though will be introduced in September. This comes really quick considering that products based on the current Atom, have only now started appearing in the mainstream markets in large numbers. Perhaps a staggered launch for this might have been a better bet. |
