25 Jul, 2009, 10:04 am IST | Shayne Rana | Smartphones

Modu, the developer and manufacturer of what could easily be regarded as one of the world's lightest cellphones, has chosen Israel as the first country in the world to introduce the moduphone and the modujackets. This initial launch precedes the full commercial launch with Cellcom Israel that will take place later this year. Modu will launch in Europe, Southeast Asia and South America later this year.

Modu will expand its product line through the end of the year. In addition to the modu phone, consumers will receive an offer to choose a moduexpress jacket out of a variety of flavors and will also receive a carrying modupouch for their phone, all free of charge. Customers, who will choose to provide modu and Cellcom Israel with periodical feedbacks on their experience with modu, will be credited with airtime.

Dov Moran, CEO and founder of modu, commented, "The initial launch is a milestone in modu's development. The decision to introduce modu in our home country of Israel and specifically with Cellcom Israel, the largest cellular operator in Israel is of great significance to us. The launch in Israel is the first among others planned for later this year in other countries.”

The initial launch will start on Wednesday in Israel, where Cellcom Israel will offer a limited quantity of the modu phone to its subscribers. This introductory modu kit will be sold by Cellcom Israel for about Rs. 6,050 (apx. $125.00) and will be sold through Cellcom Israel’s online store and calling centers. Since it is heading to Southeast Asia, perhaps we could see it here in a little while too.
