Sony Computer Entertainment America, Sony Pictures and Sony DADC, have been slapped with a patent lawsuit over its Blu-ray technology that uses metallic layers to reflect laser light in Blu-ray discs. A UK based company, Target Technology, claims that Sony's Blu-ray discs infringe a patent it filed last year, for the use of certain metal alloys in the reflective or semi-reflective layers of an optical disc. Although Target does not specify in its suit whether it believes all of Sony's Blu-ray discs infringe on the Target patent or whether the suit applies to just a portion of the discs manufactured, the company is seeking a permanent injunction that will prevent Sony from violating Target patent rights in the future, as well as damages, with interest. |
