Asus ENGTX285 Top

When it comes to high-end graphics cards such as the GeForce GTX 285, the brand doesn’t make much difference because most manufacturers follow Nvidia's reference design. This means that you’ll get the same PCB and cooler and only the packaging and stickers on the card will differ. Since we have already gotten a taste of the GTX 285 running at stock speed, we wanted to see how good a factory-overclocked GTX 285 would be. We tested the Asus ENGTX285 TOP to find out whether it’s worth the premium it commands.

Features
The ENGTX285 TOP (Top Overclocking Performance) belongs to Asus’ factory-overclocked range of graphics cards and is clocked 3.5 percent higher than regular GTX 285 cards. Our tests of stock GeForce GTX 285 cards indicated that it doesn’t have much headroom for overclocking and can run only around 50 MHz faster than the stock speed. Asus has played it safe and cranked the core and memory speeds by 22 MHz and 58 MHz respectively.

Even though the card is overclocked, it features Nvidia’s reference cooler and looks exactly like any other GTX 285. The rear panel sports two dual-link DVI outputs, a common port for S-video and component out. The package contents include a DVI to HDMI adapter, component video dongle, and a regular DVI to D-sub adapter. The only freebie that comes with the card is a mouse pad with a leather-finish surface and rubberized base so that it doesn’t slip while you’re presumably gaming.

Would you buy it?
