LG to unveil IPS-based 3D monitor at IFA 2011

While most current 3D monitors in the market are still using TN panels, LG has decided to break this mould with an IPS-based FPR 3D monitor that the company will unveil in a couple of days at IFA 2011. The new monitor is called the D237IPS. which will offer a 3D ready panel in Full HD resolution. There are no details on pricing yet, but we should be getting more details on that and availability once LG officially unveils it.

Not too hot in the design department

The D237IPS uses the same FPR (Frame Pattern Retarder) technology that we’ve seen on their TVs and monitors. There’s not a lot of information regarding the connectivity or features of the new monitor, but we do know that the 23-incher will sport a 1920x1080 resolution and have a 100 nit brightness level. Also, the FPR technology implemented should ensure brighter colours, lower crosstalk and an overall better 3D experience. Since LG relies on passive 3D, the glasses don’t have to be charged unlike active 3D glasses and are a lot cheaper and more comfortable, as well. You will also be able to rotate the screen 180 degrees for portrait viewing. The D237IPS is not a great looker by any means and we’ve seen far better designed 3D monitors from Dell, BenQ and Asus. Let’s hope it has a good price to back it up, if they plan to move any off the shelves.
