Have you recently bought a Samsung SMART TV and found yourself without any good 3D content? Well, worry not as Samsung has now launched their 3D Video-On-Demand (VOD) service in India. The service first began in South Korea and now with SMART TVs entering the Indian market, Samsung has decided to launch it here as well in order to differentiate their TVs from the rest of the competition. The 3D VOD is completely free of cost and one can access it by simply downloading the ‘Explore 3D’ application from Samsung Apps. ![]() Just make sure you have a good internet connection
Initially, the ‘Explore 3D’ app will feature about 30 video clips which range from movie trailers, music videos, children’s classics, lifestyle and documentaries. Samsung has also collaborated with Dreamworks to provide exclusive movie trailers of ‘How to Train Your Dragon’, ‘Shrek 4’, etc and classics like ‘Pinocchio’, ‘Aladdin’, etc. The video service is available across the D6000, D6600, D7000 and D8000 3D TVs. While this is a good initiative, I don’t think Samsung would release any full length 3D movies anytime soon in India and the main reason for that is the bandwidth restriction. Streaming short clips are still ok, but in order to watch a full length movie without waiting for it to buffer would require you to have at least a 2Mbps unlimited connection which is still an expensive proposition for many. Till that’s sorted out, we’ll have to settle for short clips. |
