BlackBerry Smartphones and PlayBook Might Run Android Apps

Looks like there is a possibility that future RIM devices based on the QNX operating system will also be able to run Android apps. The company is looking for a Java environment for its smartphones and the PlayBook, their tablet. Running Android apps at the nearest PlayBook As per BoyGeniusReport, Research in Motion is considering the Dalvik Virtual Machine - the one that the Android operating system also uses, as a feature in their devices. If the plan is carried forward, their upcoming QNX devices will be able to run almost any Android apps. It seems that there can be two ways to go on with this plan, one where RIM uses Dalvik VM independently without involving Google and the other where they collaborate with Google which would lead to official support for Android apps on RIM devices. The latter can include features like the Android Market, Google’s Gmail, Maps, and other apps. If future RIM devices start running Android apps, their smartphones and tablets will be a lot better prepared to take over the market. Let’s see how things shape up for them. |
