State owned telecom operator, BSNL, has offered a new location-based service, to allow its subscribers to track buddies, locate resources on maps and even make new friends through a location-based chatting service. Features of the service include a location-based '‘Friend Finder', which allows subscribers to locate their contacts in the '‘buddy list' on a map. BSNL subscribers will also be able to chat with other BSNL subscribers in the vicinity, via its chatting service. The service also alerts subscribers when a contact in their buddy list is in close proximity and vice-versa. It allows subscribers to receive latest information about sales and new products in their interest category near their current location. Subscribers can activate the services on demand for a desired period of time through SMS. The value added service for BSNL mobile network users will be offered free of cost, up to 31st December.
