03 Apr, 2007, 4:30 pm IST | by Priyanka Pradhan |

Canadian wireless voice and data communications services provider, Rogers Wireless has launched its wireless video calling service that turns a mobile handset into a webcam for face-to-face calling in real time with friends, family and business associates.

Rogers is the first and only wireless carrier in North America to offer video calling, which is part of the Rogers Vision suite of services that offer High speed Internet and multimedia experience on mobile phones.

In addition to wireless video calling, Rogers Vision allows customers to communicate with mobile multimedia and visual services like video-on-demand, including the best on YouTube, ET Canada, CSI, CNN along with Mobile Television to access TV and video programs. Also, the service offers radio-on-demand, featuring live XM Satellite radio and Rogers MusicStore, a source for music tracks.

John Boynton, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Rogers Wireless said, "Rogers Vision is a quantum leap forward in wireless communications... the experience is like being there. You really have to see it to believe it! Beyond offering video calling, Canadians can now benefit from faster than ever download times - perfect for getting music from the Rogers MusicStore, or for watching YouTube clips and TV programming, right on your wireless phone."

The Rogers Vision suite of services operates on Rogers' new High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) network, the latest evolution of GSM, the worldwide standard for mobile wireless communications.

As part of Rogers Vision, Rogers Wireless is first in Canada to offer subscribers access to the top 50 YouTube clips, updated on a weekly basis. YouTube's move into the wireless space will enable a new audience of mobile users to enjoy entertaining videos virtually whenever, and now, wherever they want.
