EA wants Every Game to have Multiplayer

In a recent interview with Develop, EA head honcho Frank Gibeau proclaimed his love for multiplayer and felt a lack of multiplayer - for one - is what caused Mirror’s Edge to crash and burn. I’m guessing it’s his enthusiasm that made developer Visceral Games shove multiplayer into Dead Space 2 as well. Soon every EA game will look like this While he admitted first person parkour was fun and all, he felt Mirror’s Edge’s execution “fell short”. He went on to say that he thought “there were issues with the learning curve, the difficulty, the narrative”, and of course lack of multiplayer. While I agree that there were issues with the narrative and the difficulty curve to a certain extent, I for one felt ME was a breath of fresh air in the crowded FPS genre. Breaking away from the whole “Generic Space Marine Saves the Earth” bit, the game allowed players to explore a city vertically from a first person perspective. Dead Space made enough money to warrant a sequel but Mirror’s Edge’s fate has been a bit DICEy (see what I did there?). EA did confirm a sequel a while back but since then there’s absolutely no activity on that front. |
