Is This What a Grand Theft Auto: Dubai Would Look Like?

There may be all of two people on the planet who’ve not heard the words "Grand Theft Auto". This cultural phenomenon has changed the face of gaming as we know it, practically giving birth to the Free Roaming or the Open World genre. The only thing that’s stayed constant is the fact that all GTA games have taken place in and around fictional cities (inspired by real world locales) in America. GTA: Dubai? Where do we sign up? With Grand Theft Auto IV, many gamers were under the impression that Rockstar would shift the series to another country but of course, they didn’t. And now while we sit and speculate where GTA V would take place, I’ve recently stumbled across a video that could very well pass off as a Grand Theft Auto game that takes place in Dubai. Of course it isn’t a GTA game; it’s merely a simulation created by the Dubai police using the CRYengine 3 (that same engine that’ll power Crysis 2) to facilitate SWAT training. While the program is still a Work in Progress, UAE gaming site MEGamers got a chance to play around with the demo at the recently held Dubai World Game Expo and they seemed pretty impressed by it. The demo includes some of Dubai’s major landmarks like the Burj al Arab, the buildings adorning Sheikh Zayed Road and other stuff I’m sure you’ll spot if you’re travelled to that Emirate before. The first video may be a bit mellow with them just driving around and staring at the pretty water but the second video packs in a bit of action. It seems this simulator was made in just a week, which in my opinion is very impressive. I also couldn’t help but notice the awesome possibilities of basing a free roaming game in Dubai. Rockstar, are you listening? |
