Developing games for a relatively new console is not an easy task, since their developer tools are usually quite nascent and unexplored. id's technical director spoke to Game Informer about his experience with developing software for the 360 and the PS3. According to Carmack, owing it to the experience they have with operating systems and networking, Microsoft has done a pretty good job in making their developer tools easy to use, while Sony's development tools are a whole different story. Here's a little of what he said about it in the interview: "Microsoft has made some pretty nice tools that show you what you can make on the Xbox 360. But the honest truth is that Microsoft dev tools are so much better than Sony’s. We expect to keep in mind the issues of bringing this up on the PlayStation 3. I suspect they're (Sony) not going to overwhelmingly crush the marketplace this time, which wasn't clear a year ago." |

The Sony Xperia Tablet Z is the only new 10.1-inch Android tablet to launch this year. And with no one to contend against, it is commanding a substantial premium in the market. This is not any run-of-the-mill tablet, though. The care and polish delivered by Sony is simply brilliant as we’ll see in a bit.
