MAC 07: NTT DoCoMo All Set For 4G!

While we're celebrating the announcement of 3G services in India, the Japanese are already field testing 4G wireless services. Masao Nakamura, President & CEO of pioneering Japanese telco NTT DoCoMo told the audience at the Mobile Asia Congress 2007 in Macau, that NTT's 4G trials have been on since December 2006. Nakamura said that a 12-antenna base station had successfully transmitted 5 Gigabits per second to a 12 antenna receiver using MIMO (Multiple-input and multiple-output) technology. 4G Networks are expected to be the norm in Japan by 2010 and will guarantee speeds of 1 Gbps, allowing users, for instance, to download a full-length movie in about 3-5 seconds. |
