Bioware have revealed that the PS3 version of Mass Effect 2 has ‘gone gold’ – meaning work on the game has been completed – and more importantly, that the game is going to use the engine they created for Mass Effect 3. This will make the game visually superior to its XBOX 360 version. In a company podcast, PS3 version producer Jesse Houston had this to say:__STARTQUOTE__One of the first things you're going to see is improved graphics. We actually created the engine for Mass Effect 3 and used that to make Mass Effect 2 PS3. So we took the content, the story and all of the other assets that made up Mass Effect 2 and we put it into the Mass Effect 3 engine.__ENDQUOTE__Houston also confirmed various other additions – such as a new control scheme (players will still be able to switch back to the old one) and improvements to the planet scanning mini-game. Apart from the DLCs, the game will also include all the patches and bug-fixes that were released for the 360 version. Did they manage to make Miranda look even hotter? Smart move, Bioware. The company probably saved a lot of time and money by not porting the second game’s version of the Unreal Engine and might have even managed to convince those who have already purchased and played Mass Effect 2 to buy it again. That camp includes me, by the way, as this gives me the perfect excuse to get back and finish all my playthroughs before the third game hits town. I don’t know how much better the game is going to look, but it’ll serve as a decent preview for what we’re going to get with Mass Effect 3 – and a good 10 months in advance, to boot.
