Microsoft has released a new version of its Internet Explorer browser, IE7 Beta 2, now available for download. The Beta programme has been expanded to include a wider customer base. Microsoft has also simultaneously released new IE 7 Beta 2 builds for Windows XP 64-bit editions and Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1. Until now, the only stand-alone test versions of IE 7 that Microsoft had delivered was the XP SP2 version.
Borrowing a direct page from the competition Microsoft in its new version includes tabbed browsing, which allows users to open several sites in one window and easily skip between them. Like Firefox, tabbed pages can also be organized into groups and saved into the user's 'favourites' folder. RSS feeds have been inbuilt into the browser, allowing users to select web sites to receive automatic updates.
The browser also has an anti-phishing filter and other security-focused enhancements, and more standards-adherent CSS support.
