Microsoft Restricts Access To Windows Vista Beta

| The free download of Windows Vista Beta 2 has become so successful that Microsoft has limited online access for fear of bringing the Internet to a halt. A downloadable file of Vista software, made available freely online last week, is so big that giving users unrestricted access would clog up online networks, according to the company. “It's not that we didn't anticipate this level of interest or demand, but that we are at the threshold of what the internet can bear,” reads a posting on the weblog run by the development team behind the software. At a little over 3.5 GB in size for the 32 bit version it is quite big and takes over 5 hours even on a fast net connection. I wonder why it never occured to Microsoft to release this on Bittorent. If Hollywood can sign deals with the makers of Bittorent for future releases, what stopped Microsoft? All they had to do was setup a server with the torrent and the beauty of the Bittorent p2p network would have taken care of their traffic troubles. |
