Apple got the Retina display to the iPhone and everybody was quite captivated with the amount of detail it had. There's also news that the upcoming iPad 3 is going to have their Retina display. Now, as reported by The Next Web, there are extremely high chances that the upcoming Macbooks are going to have a super high DPI in their display. In the near future, we might get a chance to see a QFHD display with a 4K resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels) in a 27-inch Apple Thunderbolt display. For the record, the current generation ones have a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. Hi-res to come soon..
Ever since Lion became official, their development platform Xcode was essential to view the HiDPI mode. Also a slight tinkering was required with the Quartz Debug mode to enable this setting. This in itself is quite a bit of an evidence, indicating that we might see some crazy high resolution screens on the upcoming Macs. With the iPad 3 coming, there’s even more possibility that Macs will require high res screens, because for app development they will require better resolution, as the current resolution is smaller than what is required as a minimum. As a result, with a 1:1 ratio, the image gets bigger than what the biggest Mac monitor can hold. So, if the pixel count is increased, there’ll be plenty of ‘space’ to actually play around with.
However, with 4K panels, there’s this ‘minor’ problem about the pricing. We recently saw a 4K TV and it was extremely expensive. In the same way, this one might just be super expensive and for most, it will be an absolute absurd price, at least if you go to see the price of these panels now. So, that needs to be rectified and sorted out. We’re not too sure, if we’ll see high resolution Macs in 2012, but we’re pretty sure that they’re part of the future, just like we’ve been seeing with major breakthroughs in technology in the past decade or so. What do you guys think about a high resolution next-gen Mac? |
