Hexus reports that Pioneer has strongly denied any plans to include HD-DVD support in its third generation Blu-Ray disc burner, the BDR-103, which would supposedly make it a multi format drive. Pioneer maintains that a journalist from the German magazine c’t misunderstood the road map being shown at Pioneer’s press briefing at IFA, currently being held at Berlin. c’t published it and was further picked up by other websites. The Hexus guys were able to catch hold of the guy who gave the press briefing, Brendan Sheridan, Product Manager (Components) for Pioneer Europe’s Multimedia Division. This is what he had to say when asked about the whole controversy. "Currently we have no plans to support HD-DVD and I cannot confirm that we will be adding HD-DVD support to any of our future-generation BD writer drives. However, Pioneer will monitor the market situation with other formats and will consider adopting those formats as and when the market demands it."
