In today’s day and age of terrorism and violence, video games have become the world’s favorite scapegoat. Someone shoots up their entire school? Video games made him do it. Someone kills people in a grocery store? Video games once again. Terrorists detonate a bomb inside a crowded airport? Video games. Like duh! Now I understand terrorism is no laughing matter but I cannot understand the media’s fascination with video games. It’s like there were no crimes before video games and everyone throughout the world held hands and danced in green fields amidst unicorns and colorful butterflies. The controversial No Russian mission So anyway, according to the Sydney Herald, the Russian media have woken up from their slumber and are pointing fingers at Modern Warfare 2. This obviously pertains to the No Russian mission where players could tear apart an entire airport, and every one in it using a heavy machine gun. Here’s a quote from Russian newspaper, Russia Today, “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has become a shocking reality ... with so many people seemingly downloading, playing or watching this game, you have to consider whether or not anybody actually thought this game could so closely resemble reality.” The report further includes ludicrous claims from an American terrorist expert who feels "computer games might influence the strategies employed by terrorists." So now besides becoming a serial killer and a rapist, video games could make you a terrorist. You have been warned. |
