SanDisk Announces New Product Line-up

SanDisk is bringing to India its catalogue of products ranging from mobile phone storage cards, memory cards for digital cameras, flash based MP3 player — Sansa and USB flash drives. The company has also introduced a new product, SanDisk V-Mate, a portable video memory card recorder, for the Indian market.

Among the products launched are flash based memory cards for GSM mobile phones to store music and pictures. According to Sanjay Mehrotra, president and chief operating officer of SanDisk, GSM phones with Micro SD flash cards are on the rise and will go upto 1.4 million units in the near future.

SanDisk's flash memory cards for digital imaging are of three types: Blue Label cards with a capacity of 128 MB to 4 GB, semi- professional SanDisk Ultra cards with capacity ranging from 4 to 8 GB and Sandisk Extreme for professionals, with capacity ranging from 1 GB to 8 GB. Of the three cards, SanDisk Ultra is twice as fast as Blue Label cards and SanDisk Extreme is about 6 to 7 times faster than both the other products.

The company has also launched three kinds of USB flash drives—Cruzer, Titanium, which is virtually indestructible due to the material used in it, and Profile, which uses fingerprint recognition for accessing information from the drive. Cruzer cards are available in the price range of Rs 1095 to Rs 2995 while prices for the Titanium fash memory cards range from Rs 1995 to Rs 3995. SanDisk Profile is priced within the range of Rs 1445 to Rs 2995.

Another product on the SanDisk roster for is the range of flash based MP3 players known as Sansa. Sansa C200 series, at Rs 6995 to Rs 8995 includes a large display, FM tuner, a battery life of 15 hours and a micro SD Flash card to expand the capacity of the player. The E200 series features an 8 GB player with rechargeable and replaceable batteries. The E series are available within the range of Rs 11, 995 to Rs 15,995.

SanDisk also introduced a range of MP3 player accessories such as speaker docks and headphones.

SanDisk also announced 2000 new retail stores for its products in India within the next three months and plans to expand to 14,000 stores next year. Initially, the stores will be spread out across 12 major cities and eventually expand to 40 other Indian cities. The two major distributers of SanDisk products in India are Rashi Peripherals and Ingram Micro IT distributors.

The company stated that all the SanDisk products come with carry-in warranty on all products and immediate turnaround time on complaints. Servicing for the products will be provided by the 40+ city distributors across the country.
