If you’re a Star Wars fan, and it’s doubtful you’re not, I’m sure you’ve wondered just how a light saber might actually work. It seems that a Shanghai-based company called Wicked Lasers is now offering, what they’re calling, the first functional lightsaber called the Spyder III Pro Arctic. This device is capable of emitting a 445nanometer wavelength cool blue, ultra high power 1 watt laser beam. According to some reports, this is up to 4,000-percent brighter than anything the company’s competitors have come up with so far. The Artic is said to be quite dangerous as if directed at your eyes it can cause - immediate and irreversible retinal damage. As powerful as it may be, I find it had to consider a light saber as some have dubbed it. Incorporating it into a laser weapon like a gun might be more accurate, as a light saber is a solid beam of light that has a much shorter range. Nevertheless laser technology is expanding, I have to agree and, yes it’s quite possible that like the sci-fi movies, laser weapons are the next obvious step. As for the Spyder III Pro Arctic, if you’re into laser technology, this one will set you back about $200 (US) which roughly translates to about Rs. 9,200. |
