| VIA, which has been keeping a low-key presence has announced the latest refresh of its EPIA line of motherboards. The latest VIA EPIA EK series is powered by VIA's own Luke CoreFusion processor. This processor has an integrated north bridge and is designed as a contained solution. The VIA Luke CoreFusion is paired with VIA's VT7237R south bridge and its features include UniChrome IGP Pro graphics, Vinyl audio and VIA's PadLock security engine. The onboard UniChrome IGP Pro graphics system is able to offer the EPIA EK hardware acceleration capabilities for MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 formats. Audio is taken care of by VIA's Vinyl VT1618 for six channel audio. Other standard features include dual Ethernet ports, Serial ATA, PATA and one PCI slot. It also manages to pack in Gigabit Ethernet as an option on the EPIA EK alongside four serial/COM ports and eight USB ports. Due to its small size the EPIA EK only has one memory slot for a maximum of 1 GB of DDR400 memory. |
