Proteins are basically our bodies' building blocks and exist as chains of amino acids. Scientists have long since tried to figure out how these chains of amino acids that build these proteins fold into their configurations. In 2008, researchers at the University of Washington designed a protein folding internet game called "Foldit" which was available freely. The game involved a lot of puzzle solving like Rubik's Cube and attracted thousands of players. In Foldit, players are able to structure proteins, fold them, and are also able to 'shake', 'wiggle', and 'rebuild' the structures of the amino acids to make more stable and efficient proteins. Scoring is based on the structure of the final protein. SOURCE: New York Times
