Yet Another Black Ops (PC) Patch on the Way

| by Avinash Bali |

It’s a very well known fact that the PC version of Call of Duty: Black Ops is terribly broken. While we loved the game and the amount of content it brought to the table, there’s no denying the fact that its technical issues made us tear our hair out. Treyarch has already released two patches, one of which did nothing, while the other actually made the game worse for many.

Will Black Ops finally be playable?

And now it seems they’re gearing up for another patch that should make the game playable. Out of all the many technical issues this patch addresses, the most interesting ones are:
  • Added an option to create shaders during load time. This fixes hitching when viewing a new area of the map for the first time on some video cards
  • Improvements to Quickmatch results (with better ping and reduced lag)
  • Improved threading performance on computers with only 2 cores
  • Fixed random freezes in certain computer configurations
  • Improvements to the spawn system
  • Weekly and Monthly leaderboards will now track all kills, deaths and assists properly
You can read the entire list of fixes here. I, however, still remain a bit skeptical considering their sloppy track record. At least Battlefield Vietnam releases in a few days, so I can get my multiplayer fix.
