CES 2013: Asus Transformer AiO can run both Windows 8 and Android

| by Shunal Doke | All-in-ones

Asus has revealed details about the company's upcoming Transformer All-in-One tablet at the ongoing CES event. The biggest feature of the tablet is that it will be able to run both Windows 8 as well as Android.

The tablet is pretty big with an 18.4-inch screen and a resolution of 1920 x 1080. The display is IPS and has 10-point multi-touch. While the device usually has a stand to be used as an All-in-One PC, the stand can be detached and the device can be used as a regular tablet.

Powering it is a 3rd generation Intel Core processor to handle Windows 8 and an Nvidia Tegra processor for Android. You can switch between the operating systems at "the press of a button". The tablet will come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

While the company hasn't given a release window for the tablet, it is set to cost $1,299 (approximately Rs 71,000) for the variant with a Core i3 processor, with higher prices for better processors.

Back in October, Asus had started rolling out the Jelly Bean update for the Transformer Prime. The update brought along with it all the bells and whistles of Jelly Bean, including Google Now and Project Butter. The Asus Transformer Prime was launched in India in March 2012 for Rs 50,000. Only the Wi-Fi model is available in India at present and it doesn’t seem like Asus will be making a 3G version, since this will eventually be phased out and replaced with the new Transformer 700. The Prime came with Android v3.0 (Honeycomb) at launch, but was upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich a few months later.
