Android Now Invited to Ubuntu's Cloud

01 Jul, 2011, 10:42 am IST | by Rossi Fernandes | Android

Ubuntu is the first distribution that comes to mind when you think about Linux. One of the unique features introduced by Canonical, the company behind the distribution introduced Ubuntu One, a cloud service that allows users to store data on the web. A total of 20GB was available for free, but users could choose to upgrade the space. Ubuntu users could use their OS to sync data to the online service, and even access it over a web browser from pretty much any device. To make access even simpler and effortless, Canonical has now launched an Android application.

Once installed, the app detects any memory cards on the device and offers you the choice to upload them to the service. The app is available as a 30-day trial and after that, users can choose one of the schemes available. The two options are a yearly fee of $39.99, and a monthly fee of $3.99. Users can also choose to upgrade to 20GB storage capacity. Online space providers are aplenty today and Ubuntu One being a paid service, might not appeal to everyone. With the number of security threats to data on the cloud, people might be even more reluctant. Canonical assures that the data on their cloud will be secure.
