Firefox for Honeycomb tablets arriving soon

| by Rossi Fernandes | Android

The war of web browsers isn’t just fought on the desktop, but also on mobile phones and tablets. Mozilla has tried to enter the mobile browser market with their Firefox browser for mobile phones. It hasn’t been as successful on the Android as the Opera Mini browser, yet. Efforts are on simultaneously to build a Firefox better suited for the new Honeycomb running tablets. A blog post by Ian Barlow, one of the designers behind the Firefox browser shows off some of the features users can expect from the new browser. The interface on Honeycomb has elements from the standard Firefox browser that blend along with Honeycomb’s minimalistic approach. The ‘Awesome bar’ is synced with the desktop browser and offers access to your bookmarks and history.

Barlow also mentions that the mobile version of Firefox had many of the elements on screen hidden away. With the added workspace, the tabs will be visible on the leftside in landscape mode. When switched to the portrait mode, they will be hidden again. It’s an attempt to enable users to scroll through tabs using their left finger and the main page using the right finger. There’s no official date on when this update will be made available to users. In a response to one of the comments on his blog, Barlow says that this might happen in the next few weeks. So, if you’re a Honeycomb user, expect to see a development build of Firefox sometime in September.
