It is the season to be beery? Guinness certainly thinks so. The Irish brewing company is getting into the holiday spirit with an augmented reality application for iOS and Android devices. According to PSFK, the app is developed in conjunction with Blippar and is called 'Decorate Your Pint'. With the app, beer drinking smartphone users can add holiday style decorations to their drink like falling snow, Santa hats, gifts, ribbons and snowflakes, then save the image to their phone and of course, share it on the networks (Facebook, Twitter, but you might want to avoid LinkedIn). If you really want to play, you can alter your saved image in Instagram before sharing. The message attached with the shared image reads, "What I really want for Christmas...".
The above video demonstrates the app in action. Jessica Butcher, Blippar's marketing and founding director says, "The Guinness project is a great bit of fun and an innovative application of our technology, offering people an instantaneous opportunity to ‘play’ with Guinness’s drinks in a way we think they will really enjoy. We love how it ties in with the look and feel of Guinness’s wider Christmas campaign, and we hope that this is just the first of many similar projects where ‘blipping’ becomes one of the calls to action in the holistic marketing campaign mix.” This isn't the only app Guinness has out there. They have a free Pub Finder app, which uses your location to find watering holes close to you, though it only works in the U.S. The "Decorate Your Pint" app, like the holiday spirit, should be available worldwide. We say should because upon searching for it in the respective app retail locations, it seems the app hasn't launched, yet. |
