Reuters reports that Android users will now be able to enjoy Skype’s video-calling on their phones, all thanks to the launch of a new service yesterday. The service allows users to make free video calls to their Skype contacts even if some of them constitute to be iPhone users. However, for now, the service will be made available to only a few handpicked HTC and Sony Ericsson phones, others will have these services soon too.

Skype intends to bring forth its popular video-calling service, and pit it against Apple's equally popular video-chat service i.e. FaceTime.  This should also help Microsoft, Skype’s current owner, earn some brownie points for its Windows Phone 7 platform, which in turn could also benefit Nokia since they intend to launch WP7 devices, soon. In the first wave of Android handsets, which would support Skype video calling are the HTC Desire S, Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo, Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro, and Google Nexus S.
