Singapore based Spuul has been a boon for fans of Bollywood movies and the Indian idiot-box who want to access content legally anywhere around the world. The ad-supported service has now launched an Android app to help connect Hindi movie buffs with their daily fix.
While the app is free to download as a worldwide release, users can access a limited free ad supported version of Spuul on Android right away or can sign up for a premium subscription for $4.99 (Rs. 275 approx.) a month. The app is compatible with Android version 2.2 and up, encompassing a whole variety of phones that can be used to access it. It’s a great move on Spuul’s part to include older generation of Android so that the service is available to a lot more users.
While currently the service is dedicated towards smartphones, tablet compatibility, a feature we’re waiting for with much excitement, should be coming soon down the line. Spuul is already working on it along with a subtitle feature for tablets.
Browse through a wide variety of movies before settling in with popcorn!
The app allows for sign-in feature with Facebook or username creation using email. Once connected with this feature, users will be able to start watching movies from where they left off. Spuul has a host of various apps on platforms like Facebook and iOS that you can club with one account, so you can access the service on whichever device you prefer. While the iOS app was released in May last year, the innovative Facebook app found a release in December last year giving fuel to Spuul’s idea of cross-platform integration.
Spuul’s Android app will let users filter movies by language or genre, allowing them to search and discover a host of new ones every week. The app has a large collection of new Hindi releases, too, which will keep a lot of Indians abroad satiated with their dose of Bollywood.
Version 1.0 of Spuul released in the Play Store only on February 19 and has been downloaded 10-50 times already with a four star rating. Going by the reviews, Spuul’s claim of being one of the "world’s best streaming services for Bollywood blockbusters and classic Indian movies and TV" doesn’t seem like a vain one.
The company itself was started by seasoned industry veterans Sudesh Iyer, the Founder of Sony Entertainment TV in India, and S Mohan, the founder of Accellion, and the app doesn’t miss its mark when it comes to quality.
Not too long ago, tech2 had listed down a few apps and services that allow you to view your favourite movies, a list Spuul was a part of. You can download Spuul for Android from the Google Play Store.
