WinZip lands on the Google Play store, grab some nostalgia now!

Anyone and everyone who has used a Windows PC knows about WinZip and if you don’t then you are either too young or simply ignorant. WinZip has been the go-to application for compressing files on Windows-based PCs and it’s now available for Android through the Google Play store, for free. The application lost its thunder a bit after Winrar entered the scene, but if you want to have a little piece of nostalgia, then go get the app. The app works on an Android phone as well as a tablet and supports viewing, creating and saving of zip files from e-mail attachments or files downloaded off the web browser. The minimum requirement is Android 2.1 and above.

Some of the highlights of the app include the ability to view the contents of the compressed zip file directly without opening it, just as you would in the desktop application. You can view images, text and web files directly. There’s also support for third party apps so you can easily open up other formats as well. The app also supports encrypted zip files including AES 128 and AES 256 so you can view sensitive material on the go. You also have the option of copying unzipped content to the clipboard and then directly pasting it in a message or email or anywhere else for that matter. You can also automatically unzip and install Android apps that may be delivered as zip files from the Google Play Store or the Amazon app store. WinZip for Android builds on the success of WinZip for iOS, introduced earlier this year and already downloaded by more than a million people.
