| In a rather interesting move Skype users will soon be able to download musical ringtones thanks to a strategic deal between the VoIP major and EMI Music Publishing. Under the deal, Skype users will gain access to EMI's database of music which includes some of the best-known songs ever written, for download, subscription or mastertone use. Artist material like 'New York, New York', 'Over the Rainbow', and 'Singin' in the rain' will be offered, alongside tracks from artists including Sean Paul, Jay Z, Pink and James Blunt. Each digital download is expected to feature in Skype's soon to be launched online store. Already the firm which attracts 150,000 new users every day, has signed a similar partnership with The Warner Bros group of record labels, so Skype can access Warner Brothers' master recordings. The deal with EMI is however said to the first of its kind, as it hands Skype a one stop shop to sell music to its customers. |
